Innsbruck Alpine Trail Festival 2026 - K25

finisher medal

I first learned about IATF about 3 or 4 years ago, and I had signed up once before, but I was injured and never managed to actually participate. So even though I did no training (again) for this trail race, I was happy to get to participate and finish without getting injured.

It was a very hot day, and we started around noon, so we ended up running during the hottest hours of the day. I did remember to hydrate (drank maybe 4L during the run) but still managed to end up in the hospital hooked to an IV after a heatstroke.

Overall, a very enjoyable day, and I’m proud of myself for finishing the race and for not over-pushing myself.

It’s definitely motivated me to train more, and train properly, for my first ever marathon coming up in September. Maybe it’s time for another 30-day running challenge? Let’s see.

On the day before the race, I went up to the umbrueggler alm for a trailrunning workshop which was super fun and inspiring. Learned a bunch of things including how to use poles, how to read the weather and also about Tessa’s adventure on the Via Alpina FKT - very cool. Made me want to go on a long trail again.
